Sweet Life Partner with McDonald’s to Fund Breast Cancer Research May 14, 2004
A Special Pink Ribbon Cookie Initiative was Launched on Mother’s Day Weekend
Santa Ana, Calif. – May 14, 2004 – Sweet Life Enterprises is proud to have taken
part in the McDonald’s Ribbon Cookie Initiative this past Mother’s Day Weekend.
As part of the program, Sweet Life donated free cases of special pink ribbon cookies
to various McDonald’s regions throughout America. Each case generated $130 in funds,
which led to over $135,000 in donations produced toward the City of Hope Research
Center.
To assist in generating cookie sales for the initiative, Sweet Life representatives
were out in full force over the weekend. “It was great to see how enthusiastically
committed the McDonald’s managers and crew members were to supporting breast cancer
research,” stated Joanne O’Connell, Sweet Life’s Regional Manager for Los Angeles.
“They also had paper ribbon cookies on sale for a $1 donation and often sold the
same customers a ribbon and three cookies!”
The pink ribbon is symbolic of a message of compassion for breast cancer survivors
and supporters.
The American Cancer Society estimates that in the United States, about 203,500 new
cases are diagnosed and about 40,000 women die each year from cancer originating
in the breast. One in eight American women who live to age 85 will develop this
illness at sometime during their life. City of Hope, a Comprehensive Cancer Center,
is an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution. Located
near Los Angeles, City of Hope is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer,
HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases, and other life-threatening
diseases.
Funds raised through the ribbon cookie initiative went directly to City of Hope’s
ongoing efforts to fight breast cancer by addressing all aspects of the disease,
from prevention to early diagnosis to advanced treatment and ultimately, finding
a cure fro the disease.
“It was an honor to partner with McDonald’s and to be able to contribute to such
a wonderful and worthy cause,” add Shelia Diaz, Sweet Life’s Regional Manager for
Orange County. “We at Sweet Life are committed to making a difference in our community.”
