Sweet Life Donates Thousands of Cookies to Homeless Shelters During the Holidays December 17, 2005

Salvation Army and Orange County Rescue Mission gladly received cookie dough to bake and serve to families and individuals in need.

Santa Ana, Calif. – December 17, 2004 – Sweet Life Enterprises, a leader in gourmet, pre-portioned cookie dough and par-baked cookies, recently gave in the spirit of the season by donating thousands of colorful, ready-to-bake sprinkle cookies to two grateful Orange County homeless shelters.

Audrey Taylor, food coordinator for the Salvation Army Hospitality House in Santa Ana, said the children were especially appreciative of the freshly baked cookies. “They’re real good cookies.” Taylor said, “We made some the very day they were delivered. And we share them with five other social services that bake them and put them into bags to give to families with kids.” In a typical month, the Hospitality House assists approximately 90 families, including 270 children, while serving 3,700 sit-down meals and 1,800 brown bag meals.

Dozens of cases of sprinkle cookies were also delivered to the Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) in Santa Ana. OCRM Kitchen Director Robert House said the cookies are a welcome treat that will be distributed throughout the group’s numerous shelters. The OCRM was founded in 1963 and is now one of the country’s largest private, nonprofit organizations operating entirely through donations. Their Emergency Shelter provides hot meals, beds, showers, hygiene products and clothing, as well as financial, spiritual and guidance counseling. Most importantly, 85 percent of those who graduate from the recovery program become self-sufficient.
